What’s a “Half Tower”?

A Half Tower is the traditional sportfisherman’s permanent top. The name derives from the early 60’s when Florida billfishermen were discovering that an elevated steering station, or a “Tower” was a big advantage in spotting marlin and swords. Following the path of natural evolution, a few captains added secondary frames in these early tower structures just over the flybridge, stretching some canvas over it for sun and weather protection. Then it wasn’t long before some owner, who could have cared less about height, but sure liked the idea of that permanent roof on the flybridge said, “just build me half of that tower”. You get the idea. Atlantic Towers’ ATL 6 Custom and ATL 8 HiLine hardtop systems are an extension of that original “Half Tower” concept. Substituting fiberglass for the original laced on fabric Atlantic Towers ATL system allows the construction of full custom hardtops with light weight and reasonable cost (click here for ATL 6 Custom Hardtop construction details)
